NEW MMO: Rift : Open Beta for 6 days (Feb 15) Register NOW!

Post by Raf »

I was invited to previous beta and tried it a bit. The game is quite polished at the low levels (I only played very low levels). It looks familiar to warhammer. Apparently there is some open world pvp as well with 2 factions. The graphics are very good, the mythos looks pretty interesting and the whole rift idea is interesting also. It's a pretty big budget mmo. Probably the biggest one until Star Wars the old republic (SWTOR) comes out later this year.

Awesome - I will take a look at it.

Drudery just finished school - so maybe he is ready for another time-sink.

Great! Might be fun at least to try it out a bit.

The beta invites were sent out yesterday I think if you registered you can pre-download the client *7.5GB* by logging on to your account.

I suggest using Skype (like ventrilo) to chat. My Nick is Zaimat.

The classes are the same for both factions, it's mostly about the storyline (Guardians are spiritual while Defiant are not and build machines, etc) + each race has some unique but minor ability and they look different (each race has unique animations and art/armor look).

A notable difference is dwarves are guardians and the only small sized race, defiants are all normal sized.

I was leaning more toward Defiant simply because it's more likely to be the underdog but have no preference.

I must say initially I wasn't sure what to think of this game but the more I read the more promising it looks.

I've downloaded the client and ready to play. I'm thinking to try out Paladin or Champion.

You can be both. That's the beauty of the Soul system. Right away (by Level 3) you already have access to two souls (still have to go up the tree but you get the basic abilities). Later on you get your third soul.

You can go hybrid to switch roles or to supplement your role by combining skills/abilities from two/three classes. Paladins are very good main tanks, champions are high damage dealers with 2H weapons.

I tend to lean toward Agile/mobile/dps tanks such as the Paragon soul. Although I tried a cleric earlier and had fun with that too. I might try a Rogue (buffs) or a mage (CC) just to get the feel for it.

The beta is open but seems their servers are down now. Supposedly back up around 8PM EST.

Pick Server: Seastone
Side: Defiant for now (we can try guardians also later)
Chat on Skype: add me as Zaimat
Character name: Zaimat or Luyce

The servers are UP. Why do you have to redownload? I just patched and I am in. I'm also on irc btw.

I am on Seastone - although they are full - they use a Que system - so just click create and get a snack - when you get back - you should have a status on your position in the queue.

I have to go to work tonight - but I should be back around 10PM PST - going to give a Warlock a whirl.
